i think the story of how i met vocaloid is quite unconventional? i think for most people it must be a song like popipo or nyanyanyanyanyanyanya or randomly stumbling upon a vocaloid mv. for me it was when i was around 14-15 years old, at that time i spent a lot of time on my 3ds, and i remember i downloaded every demo that i could find. one of those demos of games (that quicly became my favorite) was the one of project mirai.
at that time i hadnt even heard of vocaloid, i had never seen miku in my life, so i had no idea about the context of this game right? i only remember thinking "these chibis are the cutest thing in the world". the project mirai dx demo had two songs: LOL lots of laugh and senbonzakura. i still remember what i felt when i listened to senbonzakura for the first time, i had never heard something like that, it was almost magical.
i desperately needed to know more about this hatsune miku girl and her music, so i looked up project mirai, and found out about vocaloid. due to knowing about the game first, it took me some time before i understood how vocaloid really worked; before that, i just looked up all the other project mirai songs. and i was completely fascinated! by both the music and the colorful mvs with cute characters dancing. soon, listening to the same forty-something songs wasnt enough, so i started listening to new songs, and in that process, learning more about the program and the producers.
VOCALOID is a voice synthesizing application that has been sold commercially since 2004. VOCALOID began from the simple concept of synthesizing the human vocals for singing and has grown into a worldwide phenomenon, spawning new musicians, albums, figurines and even concerts. (source)
