i was really Really excited for this event, because its not just any convention. they made a joint event between a j-fashion and a k-pop event that are held regularly in the city!, not only that but also, the theme for the fashion event was monster high!! i truly couldnt miss this for the world
There was a lot of variety in the people who attended. A lot of people dressed in alt style, a few people with draculaura-like clothes, i also saw three furries, which was impressive bcs ive never seen one irl before. Their costumes were so high quality. Also, a lot of monster high cosplayers as expected, and a few people with dolls.
this was my outfit :3
There was a fashion show where each person showcased their outfit inspired by a monster high character. There were a lot of Draculauras, they were all soo cute. I remember I saw cosplays of Abbey, Lagoona and Spectra that were very well done and looked very similar to the characters. The highlight for me was a cosplayer of g3 frankie, they looked exactly like them and they even did a performance dancing to Sparked to Life !! it was soo impressive.
At some point i tried entering the kpop room but it was Impossible, the place was packed full and there was only one way that conected the room to the outside, so there were people going both ways. I turned around as i could and left the room. But later i wanted to watch a block of mv projections, so i went back around an hour later. It was a bit easier to move, and once i was out of the way, i could move freely again. I feel like i would have enjoyed the mv projections a lot more if i was up to date with recent releases.. sadly ive been so distracted and have barely been listening to kpop :(
here's all the merch i bought.. i know its a lot lol, in my defense, i dont get to go to these events too often so
some highlights:some explaining beforehand: in my city theres a small community of kpop fans that are also fandancers, and they organize outdoors gatherings! they host random play dances and fandancer shows, and sometimes theres also stores. its really fun and im soo glad to have found that community even if im not rly a dancer myself haha
if i recall correctly, its been around 4 months since the last time they've organized one of these gatherings.. i honestly really missed it. the people that ive met there, i dont see them outside of these meetings so i was happy to greet them after a long time!
this time i had such a hard time getting there lmao. theres a bus that leaves me in front of the park, but it takes Ages to come. so for this time i tried taking two buses, but i ended up waiting like 45 mins for the second one T-T i arrived two hours late lmao
thankfully i could watch the shows of some of my friends! my favorite performances were:
i also wanted to check the stores out but i completely forgot because i was so distracted during the random play lol. i danced to 2-3 songs i think (i barely know any choreographies :( )
when i was waiting for the bus i thought "maybe its better to just go back home" but im so glad i waited a bit more,, i had sm fun specially bcs its been so long since the last one
so i when i saw kohane's outfit for The First Concerto i Immediately fell in love with her vest. i love everything about it, specially the way the flower details look. i wanted one to wear myself so i thought i could try making it in crochet! this blog post is me talking about the process + some tips.
so first of all i needed a way to replicate the clothing pattern using crochet. looking closely i saw that it was much more detailed than what i thought, in fact it has three different layers. the first one has irregular shapes in various shades of purple. those would be very hard to recreate, so i decided to regularize the pattern into a checkered one (also limiting the colors to only two shades). the second layer has a very intrincate pattern of blue vines, honestly the only way of replicating it that i can think of is embroidery, but it would be such an amount of work, and also im,, not good at it, so i decided to just skip this layer (its barely visible anyways). the last layer is just the yellow flowers, and thankfully those are easy to crochet.
i bought cotton yarn, im not sure of the weight but id say its a 3. i got 150gr of each color. i decided to work with half-double crochet, with a 2.5mm hook. after some try and error, i found the way of making perfectly sized squares, which is 7 stitches x 5 rows (the squares are 5cm aprox). i used a tank top i own to calculate how i should position the squares to cover my body the way i wanted it. so i divided the vest into 3 panels: two for the front (since it has buttons) and one bigger for the back. i just worked everything with rows of hdc, color switching every 7 stitches to make the check pattern.
how i made some things:
diagonal cut squares: these took some trial and error to make but ended up being something like this: right at
the end of a row, do a decrease; for the new row, only chain one and then skip the first stitch.
the flowers: 6sc in a magic circle, in the first one do 3+1 chains and a row of 1sc, 1hdc, 1dc, then slip stitch
into the next sc. do that in each initial sc to make 6 petals. (you can always modify the number of petals as
well as their lenght/thickness)
for the details:
i thankfully found 5 buttons that looked the similar to the original ones. (theyre even prettier id say :>) i
sewed them by attaching them to hdcs.
for the flowers, i could only find two balls of yarn, but they were neither thick enough nor the exact color.
but i tried using them together, and that way the colors looked right and the flowers had a good size. to make
the smaller flowers i used those yarns individually and a 1mm hook.
So Yeah that was pretty much it !! i Am aware that it doesnt look That similar to her vest, but i like it more this way, and also its more about taking inspiration than making an exact copy. anywayss, it did take some time to make but i enjoyed the process and im so soo happy with the final result :3
originally i thought i could write a short entry everytime i thrifted something, but i quickly realized that it would mean a lot of short entries; i think id rather have less entries but have them be longer. so i think im going to organize it like monthly entries, but i wont be too strict about it
ok so i remember that at the start of the month i first got these three things. often when thrifting, there
are things that i buy because i think i could do something else with them. like i see the potential of what
it could be, or i plan to use it as a material and not an object. does that make sense?
1. the horse toy: for a long time i wanted to try my hand at toy repainting! using
any official toy as a base is out of the question bcs theyre very expensive and hard to get, so im gonna use
thrifted bootleg toys. i dont mind the origin of the toy as long as theyre cute, and this one really is! i
love the way its mane curls
2. the earrings: as pretty as these are, theyre a bit too big for my taste. i also
dont have my ears pierced lol. i actually got them because i had been looking for metal pieces like these. i
plan on detaching them and make a chain belt with them!
3. the long pillow case: these get more ridiculous but Hear Me Out. i got this for
the fabric! it looks greenish in the pic, but its all pastel colors, really pretty. i while ago i saw a
tutorial to make a wrap skirt, so when i saw this pillow-case i immediately though of it. so thats the plan
!!
other things i got:
stripped tights: ive wanted some tights like these for a while! theyre so
versatile and great for layering and adding detail to outfits. i cut them at the tight, so this way i can
wear them asymmetrically and adjust the height ^^
la isla a mediodia y otros relatos - julio cortázar: (the island at noon
and other stories) its lowkey a goal of mine to own cortázar's bibliography so um yeah :>
the maxi skirts: ok so this is such a Gem i cant believe i got so lucky! these
skirts are not only gorgeous, they were ridiculously cheap !! i got both for 1000 pesos !!!! to compare,
around 4 months ago, i bought a maxi skirt at the same fair for 1500 pesos, like hello? anyways, these are
so pretty ToT i love the pattern and the color scheme of the blue one, ive also wanted a flowery skirt. in
conclusion im really happy<3< /p>

heres a close up of the fabric!
the last thing i got was this cardigan, however this is another case of something i got for its material.. yeah, im gonna unravel it and use the yarn. i already own a knit pink top, its fine. i saw a video about using thrifted knitwear as a source for yarn a while ago, and it stuck with me. doing the math, on most cases these items cost the same as a skein of yarn, but have a Lot more material. also, this way you might find some very unique yarns! in anyway, i already know what im gonna do with the yarn ^^ if its a success, i will do a blog entry on it, but it might take some time
today i also went with my mom to the fair to buy groceries. there are a lot of stands that sell vegetables and fruits, and baked goods. so while we were there, we went to check out the part with antiques stands, but sadly there were only like 5 in the whole block (probably because it was predicted to rain later). anyways, in one of the stands we found boxes full of books about french grammar, there were also some about history, political figures, a considerable amount of books in french and some in italian.
now, i have to say that my pile of books to read is quite big so ive been trying to avoid buying new ones... but when i found this book i knew i couldnt Not get it. its not everyday that you find a camus book in its native language for 1000 pesos !! the book has Le Malentendu and Caligula, which are both theater plays. i also found a newspaper clipping from 1993 inside, it was a small article that talked about camus and La Peste, one of his most famous works
ok so right after writing the previous paragraph, i remembered that the book has a signature so i went and googled it and?? the previous owner was actually a professor at my university! her name is listed as professor in a lot of programs of courses and assignatures from my college's online library, books about french history and literature, which is coincidentally what most books in those boxes were about. so yeah thats kinda crazy. i do wonder how those books got to a stand in a fair but considering the signature in the book is from 1958, i think i might know the answer.. i hope im wrong though.
well this kinda ended in a depressing note.. um im glad i got the book though! from camus i already read L'étranger, and also Noces, which is an essay. i also started reading La Peste but completely forgot about it.. so im gonna make use of the vacation week i got ahead, and read that before starting with Le Malentendu
today we had to go shopping with my mom, so i suggested we pass by the fair on the way back. we checked everything out, but didnt really find anything i wanted to buy.. thats until the last post. i found this pink knit sweater that was just soo cute. i tried it and it fit me well, i especially love the neck and the crop, which cuts at the perfect height !! it costed 4500 pesos but i only had 3000 pesos on me lol, so my mom gave me 1000 and told me to ask the vendor for a bargain. i was kinda nervous but thankfully they accepted lol. tbh 4500 is a bit expensive.. but im not even sure this piece is actually second hand, and something similar in a store would probably cost around 7000-8000 pesos so i shouldnt complain haha
